Last week two publications have moved medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs<\/strong>) further into focus of regulatory ambitions under REACH Regulation 1907\/2006 and RoHS Directive 2011\/65\/EU:<\/p>

\u221e The European Chemicals Agency announced their intention to include MCCPs in the candidate list, which would confirm their identification as a substance of very high concern (svhc). MCCPs belong to the group of UVCBs (substances of unknown or variable composition\/complex reaction products). They find their ways into numerous different applications, for example as flame retardants, lubricants and plasticizers in PVC or electric cables.<\/p>

\u221e In addition, the Oeko-Institute published their final report on RoHS Pack 15. The report recommends to restrict the use of MCCPs in electrical and electronic equipment and to add the substance to Annex II of the RoHS Directive with a maximum concentration level of 0.1 % by weight.<\/p>

In practice, this means that companies will have to adapt their material data management set-up<\/strong> and integrate MCCPs, for example, into their supply chain and art. 33 REACH communication processes<\/strong>, honor restriction levels and assess to what extent SCIP<\/strong> notification requirements apply.<\/p>
